OBJECTIVE:

As a sales and proposal engineer, you’ll use your technical knowledge along with sales skills to provide advice and support on turnkey projects for materials handling systems to technical and non-technical decision makers.

The sales and proposal engineer is a key point of contact for our customers and provide both pre and after-sales advice and service. You’ll liaise regularly with other members of the sales team and colleagues from a range of departments such as design, production, purchasing, quality, and senior company managers.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS:
  • Promptly respond to client inquiries related to material handling systems, including conveyors, storage solutions, and automation.
  • Gather detailed requirements and specifications to propose suitable solutions.
  • Develop comprehensive bids for material handling system projects, encompassing technical specifications, layout drawings, equipment lists, and cost estimates.
  • Ensure bids are customized to meet the unique needs of each client and project.
  • Manage the proposal process to meet deadlines for submitting quotes and bids.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, such as engineering, procurement, and management, to finalize proposals in a timely manner.
  • Work closely with design engineers to understand the technical requirements of material handling system projects.
  • Seek input from design engineers to ensure proposed solutions align with technical standards and best practices.
  • Create clear and accurate Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) to illustrate the layout and functionality of proposed material handling systems.
  • Incorporate feedback from design engineers and clients to refine PFDs as needed.
  • Develop the customer database with customers that may benefit from company products or services and maximize customer potential.
  • Develop long-term relationships with customers, through managing and interpreting their project requirements.
  • Host technical presentations and demonstrate how the company product / projects and process meets the customer needs.
  • Liaise with other members of the sales team and other technical colleagues.
  • Coordinate projects together with the project engineers.
  • Prepare the handover files and arrange the handover to the project team.
  • Work on after-sales support services and provide technical back up as required.
  • Arrange and carry out product training with site technical support team.
  • Prepare reports from time to time and keep customer records.
  • Support marketing activities by attending trade shows, conferences
  • Meet monthly and annual sales targets.
  • Provide training if and when needed.

ORGANISATIONAL RELATIONS:
  • Report to the Group Sales Manager.
  • External: Customers, Project teams and suppliers.
  • Internal: Drawing, Purchasing, Projects and Workshop departments.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Diploma in Engineering or related field.
  • Proven experience in proposal engineering or project management within the material handling industry.
  • In-depth knowledge of material handling systems
  • Strong analytical skills to assess project requirements and develop cost-effective solutions.
  • Basic Skill in CAD software for creating PFDs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with clients, internal teams, and suppliers.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
  • Familiarity with industry standards and regulations governing material handling systems is preferred.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally for client meetings or site visits may be required.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing project requirements and priorities is essential.
